Week 1 – Getting started with pencil
• Explore different ways to draw realistic animal shapes – from eye & using the grid method
• Learn to create base layers, use blending & add shadows & textures
• Chance to practice drawing different animals
Week 2 – Pencil & charcoal techniques
• Pencil techniques for creating detailed studies of fur, feathers & scales
• Studying examples of different animal features
• Chance to experiment with charcoal as an alternative medium, focussing on light and shadow
Week 3 – Acrylic paint techniques
• Learn acrylic painting techniques and colour mixing
• Translate textures from pencil to paint
• Experimenting with layers and brush techniques
Weeks 4 & 5 – Final Portrait
• Spend the final 2 weeks using your new skills to work on your own pet or animal portrait from your chosen photograph.
